From grief and healing to love, laughter, and chaos, the '“Made in the (818)” short film showcase takes audiences on a journey across every corner of the human experience and the San Fernando Valley.
In the animated short, THE SHADOW OF SNOW (Kylene Wong Harrington), an unlikely bond between a fox demon and a monk leads to the ultimate sacrifice, while THE EXPERIENCE (Kathy DiStefano) and THE RUNNER (Tony Tacheny) confront the pain of loss head-on—one through a futuristic simulation, the other in the raw reality of family and memory.
Family dynamics take center stage in DRIFTIN’ ON A MEMORY (Angel Ruvalcaba Jr.), where three Chicano brothers wrestle with their father’s relapse, and in EL BAR DE HERNANDO (Andres Felipe Bernal Farias and Maria Gomez), where a shy bartender fumbles toward romance.
Shifting gears, CAST & BREW (Priscilla Zanni Bertran) hilariously captures the mayhem of a film set derailed by a global coffee shortage, and ACCOMPLICATION (Aaron Wayne Hill) closes the program with tense suspense as a fugitive’s safe hideout is disrupted by an unexpected visitor.
Together, these films balance the serious with the satirical, offering a night of locally produced cinema that is heartfelt, funny, and unforgettable— all “Made in the (818)”.
